Discover the vibrant world of alebrije painting in Tilcajete with Alex, a proud fourth-generation artist and one of Tlayudona’s original host families. With deep roots in his village’s history and cultural legacy, Alex shares his passion for alebrije art through a personal, anecdotal approach that reflects his childhood memories and lifelong dedication. As he guides you, you’ll explore the rich symbolism of Zapotec motifs embedded in Tilcajete’s alebrijes, while also delving into the emotional significance of color combinations that evoke mood and meaning.
This workshop offers a fun, meditative experience—an art form that not only allows for creative expression but also encourages mindfulness and connection to tradition.
The session includes all necessary materials, a special kit with your chosen colors to take home, and a delicious local brunch prepared by Alex’s family. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, you’ll leave inspired to continue practicing this joyful craft long after your visit.
