Paint and Sip: Alebrijes
This is our newest alebrije-painting experience!
Overview of Experience
This is our newest alebrije-painting experience, designed to fit nicely into a two-hour time block. It was created with our repeat alebrije customers in mind…This way you can enjoy the fun of painting another piece while sipping a mezcal amongst friends without sitting through the presentation twice. That being said it´s also a perfect hands-on activity for visitors with less time! You´ll get the basics–color, design, and some anecdotal information about the process that transforms copal into a woodcarving. This experience will launch directly into the practical side of this craft as you paint your piece alongside an alebrije-maker from Tilcajete. You’ll also get to sip delicious local coffee or mezcal while you paint!
What to Expect
Unlike our “Alebrijes: Mystical Art, History, Culture, and Practice” workshop which includes an hour presentation about this important art form, this Paint & Sip: Alebrijes workshop is purely hands-on. (You can click on the link for more information about our more in-depth alebrije experience.) One of our master painters from the Velasco Sosa family in Tilcajete will guide you as you choose your piece and immerse yourself in the creative process of transforming the woodcarving into an alebrije.
