The Art of Piñata Making: Day One

This is a two-part experience. Our booking system requires you to reserve each portion separately!

Join us for a two-part piñata making experience with Doña Inés in the local village of Yatareni. We love working in Yatareni, because it’s under twenty minutes from the city center but really gives you a taste of rural Oaxacan life. For this experience, we will journey to where Inés makes magic with newspaper, cardboard, and traditional clay pots– you´ll transform these household items into a work of art. Whether you want to bust open your piñata or take it home as a souvenir, this craft has a rich local history and is a wonderful way to spend a couple of afternoons.

Your first afternoon will be utilized to make your piñata’s form. You can use an idea that Inés has experience with or create your own. The second afternoon will be dedicated to it’s decoration. We space them with a day in between so that your creation has a chance to dry, especially during the rainy season.

This is a great activity for families and small groups who want to get their hands into something local, fun, and easy to catch on to. Inés provides us with a snack and a local drink made from ingredients from her village. Adults get a special courtesy mezcal while we work.
