Make your own prints (grabados) in Tlayudona with Azu!

You can’t go more than a block or two in the city center without recognizing how important printmaking is to the local community. It has been a pilar of the popular art movement in Oaxaca, and the aesthetic behind many forms of resistance.

We are pleased to present another in our new series of collaborations with emerging Oaxacan women artists and crafters in this engraving and printmaking experience. We love visibilizing women’s art and narratives within the local context!

These experiences are flexible and easy to arrange. The best part? If you’re a solo traveler and don’t require translation, you can book them for just you (with little to no prior notice).

Azucena is a local artist from Oaxaca whose art is inspired by her traditions and culture. She recently studied her BA in Visual Arts with a special emphasis on Graphic Arts. She currently works as an art teacher, primarily with children and teenagers. She believes that we were born to create, and is excited to share that creativity with you.

In this workshop she will give you a brief history and context of engraving and print-making, and then you will create your own design. You’ll get to take home your engraving for future printing, as well as your prints.

Check the rest of our calendar for additional artistic experiences with Azucena.
